The Fosdick Mountains are an east–west trending mountain range with marked serrate outlines, standing along the south side of Balchen Glacier of Marie Byrd Land, Antarctica. They were discovered by Admiral Byrd Antarctic Expedition in 1929, and named by Richard E. Byrd for Raymond B. Fosdick, who became president of the Rockefeller Foundation.
Admiral Byrd was an American naval officer and explorer. Byrd also recived the Medal of Honor. He was also the organizer of polar logistics.
Franklin Alton Wade was an American geologist. One of his chief scientific interests was the geology of Antarctica, to which he traveled several times, including twice with the noted explorer Admiral Richard E. Byrd.
The highlight of Corey’s reminiscences was his participation in the Marie Byrd Land Party, a four-man sledging team sent for three months to explore an area northeast of Little America which Byrd had discovered by air in 1929 but upon which no man had yet set foot.
Olin Stancliff was one of the last surviving members on the team and was a dog-sled driver. Not much information remains about Stancliff's participation in the expedition.
Siple was an American georgrapher from the Erie area who explorered Antarctica. Paul took part in six expeditiions in Antarctica, which included the two Byrd expeditions that happened in 1928-1930 and 1933-1935.
